
Dr. Zegpi studied veterinary medicine at the University of Chile. His undergraduate thesis consisted of the isolation and characterization of a novel strain of avian reovirus in Chile. Following graduation in 2015, he was accepted at Auburn University to pursue a PhD in Biomedical Sciences. Dr. Zegpi’s PhD dissertation comprised studies on innate immune responses and effectiveness of novel vaccines against infectious bronchitis virus. After obtaining his PhD in 2019, he started a postdoctoral research fellow position at the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Southeast Poultry Research Lab, where he studied transmission dynamics of the egg drop syndrome atadenovirus in broiler chickens. In 2023, Dr. Zegpi was named assistant professor at The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. The focus of this position is to perform scientific research on poultry diseases.
