Congratulations to Gary Closs Jr. (back row, center in picture) for receiving 2nd place in the MANRRS graduate students oral presentation in research division 1: Biological, physical, and chemical sciences. The title of his presentation: Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) and secreted peptides reduce Salmonella colonization in chickens. Gary's advisor is Dr. Gireesh Rajashekara.

Dr. Renukaradhya Gourapura has received the CFAES 2021 Innovator of the Year Award. This award recognizes scientists who have created innovations that have or will have a major impact on agricultural production, business, rural communities, technology, or the health and well-being of animals and human beings. Dr. Gourapura was also a finalist for the 2021 university wide Innovator of th Year. Congratulations Dr. Gourapura!

The university has been awarded a $10 million grant from the National Cancer Institute to study the long-term, longitudinal impact of COVID-19 on first responders, health care workers and the general population. The award will fund the Center for Serological Testing to Improve Outcomes from Pandemic COVID-19 (STOP-COVID), a new Serological Sciences Center of Excellence. Center co-investigators include FAHRP's Linda Saif and Anastasia Vlasova.

The American Association of Avian Pathologists annually selects an outstanding student to be the recipient of the Reed Rumsey Student Award for Advancement of Avian Medicine. Dr. Amir Ghorbani, a graduate student in Dr. Lee's Laboratoy in FAHRP, was this year's winner of the Reed Rumsey Student Award for basic research in avian medicine. Dr. Ghorbani received his veterinary degree in 2012 from the Islamic Azad University, Karaj Branch in Iran. His presentation was titled "Development of Next-generation Live Attenuated Influenza Vaccines with Elite Interferon-inducing Capabilities."
