Congratulations to both Menuka Bhandari (Rajashekara lab) and Kush Yadav (Kenney lab) on receiving $500 CRWAD student travel awards to present their abstracts at the upcoming meeting in January 2023. Menuka and Kush were chosen as two of 20 awardees after submiting a 500 word essay during the abstract submission process to explain how their research is of interest to the attendees of the CRWAD conference.

CFAH volunteers travelled to the 60th Farm Science Review held in London, OH from Sept. 20th-22nd to share the history of the Center for Food Animal Health, our research focuses, and to help attendees learn how to Stamp Out Disease. The 2022 Farm Science Review welcomed 114,589 visitors during the course of the three-day event which is held at the Molly Caren Agricultural Center.

On August 26th the CFAH graduate student unit met virtually with CFAH alumnus, Dr. Dipak Kathayat (Rajashekara lab). Students had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Kathayat on his research experiences, goals, and advice to those pursuing education and careers in research.

Xiaoyu Niu, advised by Dr. Qiuhong Wang, received his Ph.D. from the Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine – College of Veterinary Medicine after successfully defending his dissertation titled “Study towards the development of effective and safe live attenuated PEDV vaccines” on July 8th 2022. He has accepted a post-doctoral position in Dr. Ralph Baric’s lab at the University of North Carolina.

Diana Cruz-Pulido, Ph.D student, and Dr. Scott Kenney recently published a paper in Scientific Reports entitled: "Differing coronavirus genres alter shared host signaling pathways upon viral infection". Diana and Dr. Kenney worked alongside Wilberforce Zachary Ouma of The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC) to show that even though there is a positive correlation between PDCoV and SARS‑CoV‑2 infections, these viruses could be using different strategies for efficient replication in their cells from their natural hosts.
