Dr. Scott Kenney, CFAH Assistant Professor and Molecular Virologist, recently represented our college and unit at the 2023 North Central United States Animal Health Association meeting held April 11-13, 2023 in Columbus, OH. At the North Central district annual meeting, Dr. Kenney presented a 20-minute talk highlighting CFAES, CFAH, PAAR, and his laboratory work with African Swine Fever virus.

Congratulations to Menuka Bhandari, advised by Dr. Rajashekara, and Yu Li, advised by Dr. Wang, for being selected for oral presentations at the 2023 IDI-TA day. Speakers were selected by a group of committee members comprised of faculty and students. IDI-TA day will be celebrated at Biomedical Research Tower 115 (460W 12th Avenue - Columbus Campus), 10 am – 4 pm on April 24th. This free conference offers opportunities for trainees and scientists to connect.

Congratulations to Kush Yadav, doctoral candidate in Dr. Kenney's lab, for receiving a $500 Student Travel Award to attend the 42nd Annual Meeting of the American Society for Virology (ASV 2023) held at the Classic Center in Athens, Georgia June 24 - 28th, 2023. The travel award is sponsored through a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to help support travel to the ASV annual meeting for predoctoral students, postdoctoral fellows, and undergraduate virology teachers.

Congratulations to Carolyn Lee, PhD candidate in Dr. Scott Kenney's lab, for being awarded the People's Choice Award for her poster titled "Engineering an African Swine Fever Virus Multiepitope Protein for Use in an ASF Nanoparticle-based Subunit Vaccine" at the 2023 CFAES Poster Competition! The competition, held on both the Columbus and Wooster Campuses March 27-28th, translates cutting-edge research completed by undergraduate students, graduate students, and research scientists during the CFAES Annual Research Forum and Poster Competition.

Kush Yadav, Ph.D candidate, and advisor Dr. Scott Kenney, publish a scientic review on MDPI titled "Extrahepatic Replication Sites of Hepatitis E Virus (HEV)". The review summarizes how extrahepatic replication sites will help in designing treatment regimens and selection of samples for screening of hepatitis E viruses in cases of sporadic outbreaks.

Recently Dr. Kenney, Dr. Gourapura, and their staff and students collaboratively published a paper in the Journal of Nanobiotechnology entitled: Enhanced mucosal immune responses and reduced viral load in the respiratory tract of ferrets to intranasal lipid nanoparticle-based SARS-CoV-2 proteins and mRNA vaccines.

Kush Yadav, Ph.D candidate, and Dr. Scott Kenney recently published a paper in MDPI titled: Animal Models for Studying Congenital Transmission of Hepatitis E Virus. The review describes many of the current HEV animal model systems and the strengths and weaknesses of each as they apply to HEV pregnancy-associated mortality. Kush and Dr.
