Ohio State’s Animal Care and Use Program Retains Full Accreditation

Dec. 6, 2022

Ohio State recently completed the triannual review of the animal care and use program for both our biomedical and agricultural programs and was awarded continued full accreditation by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) International. The AAALAC accreditation process includes an extensive internal review followed by a comprehensive on-site assessment by members of AAALAC's Council on Accreditation. The site visitors’ report was reviewed by the full Council on Accreditation at their Fall meeting where it recommended continued full accreditation for Ohio State. AAALAC's voluntary accreditation process provides an external determination that Ohio State’s research and teaching programs involving animals meet the minimum standards required by law and are also going the extra step to achieve excellence in animal care and use. We are pleased that AAALAC recognizes the hard work by our animal care staff, researchers, IACUC and other support groups by accrediting our program continuously since 1968.
