Faculty Spotlight: Talita Resende

 December 2024

Talita Resende joined The Ohio State University as an Assistant Professor and Swine Health Extension Specialist in May 2023. She is a faculty member in the Department of Animal Sciences and Center for Food Animal Health, with an appointment focused on addressing swine health challenges through extension programming and applied research projects. Before joining OSU, Talita gained significant experience working in veterinary diagnostics and she also has teaching and research experience from various institutions, including the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, where she taught veterinary pathology and diseases of poultry, and the Federal University of Minas Gerais, where she taught veterinary anatomy and where she still has research collaborations on-going. Talita holds a DVM (2012), a master’s in animal pathology (2015), and a PhD in veterinary medicine (2019).

Talita’s current extension efforts include leading "Pork Prospect," an innovative program aimed at exposing first- and second-year animal sciences students to the swine production. This initiative introduces students to career opportunities in swine health while engaging them in hands-on activities at the Swine Farm of the Western Agricultural Research Station. Her extension work focuses on building connections between academia, producers of all sizes, and industry stakeholders to promote health and sustainability in swine populations.

She enjoys a good cup of coffee, spending time with her dog, and traveling through reading books or actual trips. Talita welcomes connections with veterinarians, producers of all sizes, and industry professionals. You can reach her via email at resende.2@osu.edu, call (330) 263-3949, or visit her office at the Wooster campus.
